JOIN THE TEAM

Our goal is to bring people together who love to dance, compete and have fun. No partner or experience necessary!

Have you ever noticed Championship Ballroom Dancing on PBS while flipping through TV stations? Did you catch "Strictly Ballroom" or "Shall We Dance" in the theatres? That's what competitive ballroom dancing, or dancesport as it is now known, looks like. For many years, dancers have competed in large championship competitions in Europe, America, Canada, Australia, and the Far East. And in 1997, the International Olympic Committee recognized dancesport as an Olympic sport.

Dancesport is a highly developed and stylized form of ballroom dancing in which the main emphasis is on performance and appearance. In a dance competition, couples dancing together on the same floor vie for the attention of the judges with their speed, elegance, body action, and/or dramatic movements (depending on the dance). To prepare for a competition, couples not only learn the steps they will dance, but study and practice a codified technique that enables them to produce the maximum visual effect while dancing.

Well, dancesport is alive and well at Caltech as the Caltech Ballroom Dance Team! If we have piqued your interest, you can learn more About the Team, and why you should join here -- and find out what benefits & resources CBDT has to offer to its members.
