BACK BY MUCH POPULAR DEMAND! Truly amazing and beloved teachers
Oliver & Silvina return to Caltech.
Oliver Kolker started dancing Tango in 1997, training with
Miguel Angel Zotto, Osvaldo Zotto, Roberto Herrera, Graciela
Gonzalez, Carlos Gavito, Carlos Copello, Horacio Godoy and Luis
Solanas. By 1998 he started teaching at "La Viruta," (aka "La
Estrella") a famous tango school and milonga in Buenos Aires. His
success there enabled him to teach and perform in the most
prestigious tango houses and schools around the country, and produce
the well-known teaching videos of Mora Godoy, who hired him as her
Executive Director of her school. Together with Mora Godoy, Olive
started Tango Emocion a great Dancing Company with 6 couples and
Lisandro Adrovers quintet (Forever Tango 1st Bandoneon), and
together they toured all over Europe. As a protege of Copello,
Oliver began teaching at the Tango Escuela Carlos Copello in 2004.
Argentinean Silvina Valz teaches and performs tango throughout
Europe, Japan, the United States and Buenos Aires. Silvina is one of
the young great tango dancers whose dance incorporates elements from
all styles of tango. She has studied and practiced tango in Buenos
Aires with different teachers, among others, Pepito Avellaneda and
Gustavo Naviera. Silvina is also known for her work with the Bs As.
milonga master Dany Garcia (El Flaco). In addition to being one of
the tango's rising stars, Silvina has worked in Paris as a
choreographer and production assistant with the Theatre Antoine
Vitoz.

Homer & Cristina are back in Los Angeles
and will be teaching Dec 15-17 at Caltech!!! They will be performing
during the Caltech All-Night Milonga,
where Homer will also DJ.
A very dynamic, innovative and inspiring instructor & performer,
Homer is the godfather of Caltech Tango Club, and is a favorite,

Thursday, January 15
at Winnett Lounge7pm to 9pm - "The
Walking Game" (Adv Beginner & Intermediate) -
fundamental yet advanced ways to connect in
open or close while walking forward or backward (ending with a
polished pattern to enhance this feeling)...
9 to 11pm - "What a Drag" (Intermediate) -
Barridas or tango drags and the 'organic'
technique to lead/follow based on the turn.
Friday, January 16
at Dabney Hall
8pm to 10pm - "The Art of Floor Craft" (Adv
Beginner & Intermediate) -
Navigation games, exercises, and techniques that Cristina and I have
learned over the past 12 years.
10pm to ~5am - All-Night Milonga, Homer to dj, Homer & Cristina demo
Saturday, January 17
at Winnett Lounge
2pm to 4pm - "Now There's a Catch" (Intermediate/Advance)
- stops, traps, grabs - fun
movements that employ musical breaks and rhythmic accepts, with
lifts.
4pm to 6pm - "Kiss Me Goodnight & Other Such Rhythmic Oddities" (Intermediate/Advance)
- playing with tango syncopa and
other 'loosely based' rhythmic ideas using simple but interesting
movements. |
