ABOUT THE CBDC LIBRARY

The CBDC Library was created the Spring of 2004, and was intended to give CBDC members and affiliates access to ballroom training videos, music and books.  The current holdings include media in International and American style Latin and Standard, as well as media in other social partner dances.

Borrowing Material from the CBDC library

• Any member of the Orgs committee may borrow materials without a deposit.  All non-Orgs members must put down a $5 deposit to borrow videos, DVD videos, or books, but no deposit is required for CDs.

• Any member of the Caltech community (Staff, academic or otherwise, students and their dependents, including JPL) may borrow materials so long as they can be vouched for by either the Librarian, or a member of the Orgs Committee.  If they wish to borrow an item and they are not known to any member of the Orgs Committee, they must put down double the deposit, and $5 per CD.

• The library is intended to be for club use primarily.  Given that the Orgs Committee is approximately 10 strong, it is unlikely that any regular will not be known to any of the Orgs members.  Also this policy is designed to reward involvement in the organisational activities of the club.

Procedure

• Contact the librarian via email or in person at classes. Let him/her know what you would like to borrow, and arrange a time (usually a class night works best).

• Meet at the arranged time, give him/her the deposit (if any) and borrow the item.

• If the Librarian is not available, any of the Executive Officers (President, Secretary, Treasurer) are authorised to lend items.

• Orgs members cannot have more than 10 items at a time. Non-Orgs members cannot have more than 5.

Length of Loan

• Standard loan length is about 2 weeks.

• After 2 weeks, and within 1 month, the Librarian will contact you to find out the status of the items.

• Long-term loan (over 1 month) will be available only to Orgs or Team members, except in special circumstances.

• If someone needs an item you have, the Librarian will email you to return it.  You will have up to a week to return it from the date the email to recall it was sent.  If you don't you will forfeit your deposit.  You will also be in trouble.

• If you have items out please check your email regularly, and don't leave town for extended periods without returning what you have.
